1999 Lughnasadh Summer Camp
2001 Lughnasadh Summer Camp
Every year we hold camps for members and friends in Britain, and on the west
coast and east coast of America.
Each summer, by the White Horse of Uffington in Oxfordshire, we hold a Lughnasadh
camp for ten days. Here's how we announced the Lughnasadh 99 camp:
In a spacious green field, surrounded by trees, and far from the noise of traffic
and the city, we will once again create a Druid village for ten days.
Bring your own tent or camper, or just bring a sleeping bag and spend your nights
in the magical environment of one of the communal spaces which are offered,
complete with carpets and wood-stove heating. Each day you'll have the chance
to simply relax in good company, make new friends and unwind, or youll
be able to join in as many of the activities on offer as you wish. Come for
any duration - stay for just a few days or come for the whole camp!
There'll be talks and workshops, Groves and initiations, story-telling and Eisteddfodau.
There'll be Druid Sweat-house ceremonies, a sauna, a hot tub, sharing circles,
activities for children, the Lughnasadh Celebration, meditations, and - of course
- the Kids vs. Druids football match! Were also planning a fire labyrinth,
a play, a concert, and a visit to the White Horse and Waylands Smithy! Well
have a Lammas Fair too - so bring arts and crafts and produce, to show and sell
and share.
Philip Carr-Gomm will be
giving workshops on Seven Lessons in Magic and we hope that Professor Ronald
Hutton, Dr Graham Harvey, and Caitlin
Matthews, will give talks for us, as they have so kindly done over the last
five years. And Gordon Laurie, who has an intimate knowledge of Celtic culture
and spirituality, hopes to visit us from Seattle, to talk about his views and
findings.
The camps act as a vessel in which the best in people may emerge. It is a safe,
supportive environment for all ages. The advantage of a camp is that there is
space and time for everyone to be themselves, to be how they will, and to be
involved to the degree that they feel comfortable. And always, the grass, trees,
and sky are there to act as gentle healers, creating a positive environment
in which awakening souls may grow.
If you feel like joining us to create a Druid village this summer, we'd
love to meet you there!
The camps provide a wonderful opportunity to meet other members, to share in
the magic of High Summer with friends old and new, to sit under the trees and
the stars, listening to stories and music, coming back again to a sense of being
at one with the land. The longer you stay, the more you'll unwind! And we'll
have full catering, colourful communal spaces, a shop (for things like bread
and toothpaste), and even a Druid café - all to help you do this!
