Introduction to Touchstone

The Journal of the Order of Bards Ovates & Druids

Touchstone began its first incarnation as the 'OBOD Newsletter' a few years ago. At first, and when the membership of the Order was relatively small, it appeared intermittently, depending on who could be found to put it together at the time! So it varied in size and length and no-one ever quite knew when it would land on their mat. Then as the Order grew and it became necessary to keep members more regularly informed of news, events and contacts, the production and editorship was established at OBOD's office in Lewes where it became a more regular publication appearing every month except December, under the editorship of Walter van Rijn. After about a year Walter decided to devote more time to his music and shaman concerts, so MaddyJohnson took over (in October 1994) and the production and editorship moved to Susan Henssler's home in the Midlands. She developed what was then the Order's Newsletter into the Order's Journal, Touchstone. In August 1997 the editor's position was taken over by Dave Smith.

We still publish 11 times a year with normal length now 16 pages. Regular features include Stories; Skywatch, the astrology column; Sacred Space; The Green Page (the eco forum); Open Forum (members letters); members Noticeboard, Events Listing for the forthcoming month or two; Druid News and Information, Reviews, editorials and our Chosen Chief Philip Carr-Gomm's (better known as CC) regular slot plus other feature length articles, poetry artwork and wise thoughts from members all over the world.
