Druid-Friendly Venues

Over the years we've discovered some wonderful venues for workshops, conferences, camps or rites of passage that feel very much in sympathy with the Druid ethos of respecting Nature, and of being located within beautiful and often energising landscapes. Attwood Permaculture Project, Hobro Lodge, Wolverley, Kidderminster
A smallholding and herb garden producing herbs and honey. Visitors are welcome for short stay camping under canvas and in the camping pod. We try to grow organically. The site has been worked under the influence of permaculture for the last fifteen years and has recently undergone some replanning and changes. Two acres of woodlands source the wood for the woodburners and a woodpellet burner provides low carbon heating for the house. Visitors to Attwood tell us how peaceful a place it is to stay, even therapeutic. We offer short stay camping under canvas for those hardy visitors who want to pitch their own tent, or for those requiring a bit more comfort and being at less mercy to the wonderful English weather, a camping shed with woodburner and LED lighting. The shed is a serene curved shape which easily sleeps two. There is a camper’s toilet and shower down at the house. Prices for camping start from £5 a night and for the camping shed £30. The Sacred Land of Annwfn, California
In 1976, Gwydion Pendderwen came to the Coast Range mountains of Mendocino County in northwest California, and found a 55 acre parcel on Greenfield Ranch in the hills near Ukiah, the land he called Annwfn. In 1982, after his untimely death, the land was left in trust with the Elliptical Congregation of the Church of All Worlds to be used as a sanctuary where Pagans would be able to commune with nature and peacefully practice their religion. Annwfn is open for the Pagan community to use when they have the need to relax, rest, and reground away from their mundane lives. Annwfn is beautiful. The forests are Fir, Madrone, and several kinds of Oak. There are Red Tail and other hawks, Stellar Jays, several kinds of woodpeckers as well as many other birds. The wildflowers include Douglas Iris, Golden Fairy Lanterns, Blue-eyed Grass, Shooting Stars, Lupine and Buttercups and a myriad of others, in season. There are deer, foxes, coyote, squirrels, and yes, skunks, and mice. There is a small pond, streams and a small waterfall in springtime, meadows, and spectacular views. To this are added four ritual circles, ritual paths, a Goddess-dedicated organic garden, and the wonderful Mushroom Temple which was built with loving care by Gwydion Penderwyn and his friends. The Trees of Annwfn are accustomed to being talked with, and interacting with new people. We encourage meditation and interweaving of spirit through wild-magic communion with the sacred trees and beasts. Pay attention to the spirits and guardians around you: but rather than binding them with your expectations, always honor the Unexpected.
Annwfn is designed and used as Sacred Space. All Solar, Lunar and Cross-quarter gatherings are celebrated here. The sanctuary is available for rituals that correspond with the Wheel of the Year and with love and respect for our Mother Earth. All are welcome to use the sanctuary for personal retreats and camping. If you wish to reserve Annwfn for an exclusive gathering, please contact the Caretakers  For more details see the website: www.friendsofannwfn.org

The Hayloft, Devon Shippon, North Devon
The Hayloft, at the Devon Shippon, is set in a secluded rural location, surrounded by the stunning countryside of North Devon. It offers uninterrupted views for miles around and allows visitors to truly re-connect with the natural environment in which we sit. Our remote setting also boasts truly dark skies. As well as wonderful views, we also pride ourselves on the wealth of wildlife, which we share this beautiful location with. Visitors are welcome to wander our wildlife field, or just sit back and relax.
The Hayloft is perfect for couples, friends or families looking for a rural getaway. It comprises a lounge, kitchen, double and twin bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities, making the most of the original barn features, but with modern comforts.
Our location is centrally placed for the beaches of North Devon and Cornwall, as well as access to Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor (all within 45 minutes drive).
On site, we have a prehistoric-style roundhouse which is available for guests, on request. This prehistoric-style facility, in the wildlife field, gives visitors the feeling of being transported back in time. Being directly involved in local prehistoric archaeology, we are more than happy to offer a talk about the local sites and finds and artefact handling session. As well as the Roundhouse, the wildlife field has a wide range of trees to work with, several small clearings for connecting to nature and a labyrinth. There is a stone circle, set in a grove of lime, hazel and poplars and a space beside the wildlife pool, beneath willows, for quiet contemplation.
As of Summer 2024, we hope to have completed our wedding roundhouse. The venue will be in the wildlife field, where we will offer weddings (non-legally binding) and handfastings for small groups at an affordable rate. Packages of accommodation, venue, celebrant and champagne/canapes (bespoke to the couples’ requirements) can be arranged.
The site is run by an OBOD Druid. For more information, please visit our website at www.devonshippon.com
